Alinea (or the many expressions of my father)
While in Chicago, we were very excited to eat at Alinea. We were a bit nervous to take my parents there since the food, while delicious, is definitely edgy and innovative. I decided to take a photo of my dad after each of the 25 courses to judge his reaction. I think he liked it... but I'm not sure.
(No flash photography at Alinea, so a few pics are blurry... also, the other exciting thing about this dinner was that El Hijo del Santo was sitting in the corner with his Mexican wrestling mask on the entire evening. We sat next to his body guard to get the DL...)

so funny - his expressions definitely get more somber and less cheerful through the middle of the meal! after looking at 15 consecutive pictures of dad, i could actually see how i resemble him somewhat. funny.

I cannot believe we don't get a complete run-down of what the heck each of these concotions was. I like the idea of tasting 25 different dishes, but the presentation is a bit too too for me. I prefer a no-nonsense approach.

That is some crazy-looking food! Beautiful, for the most part (but the dish in photo 9 looked a little like a toilet bowl). Your dad is obviously a good sport. :)

Wow, thanks for the vicarious visit! I only wish my computer had smell-o-vision capability. (I'm trying to imagine some situation in which my dad would consent to having his picture taken that many times in one evening ... what a good sport your dad is!)

I hope you can get some use out of the machine knitting books. Psst - you've been tagged to give 7 Random facts about yourself. :)
