My cousin Paul and his wife, Sydney, just had a baby boy named Marcus. Behold the cuteness:
I was a little slow on the draw, knitting something for this guy, but here's what I came up with, thanks to the incredible sweater machine and Nicole and her sewing machine skills:
I chose a flannel backing with cowboys, to man up the blanket. It has a lot of pink and purple so Marcus can get in touch early with his feminine side. Shine sport, one ball per square which was about a cubic foot before washing. Then it shrank a little. Shine sport on the knitting machine knit at a larger gauge of 4.75 stitches per inch, but the fabric was still pretty soft and nice.
Nicole is a saint. She helped me sew in a zipper for Harold's sweater machine cardigan. This was much more trouble than I originally thought it would be- We used chicknits' guide to sewing in a zipper, but once we got past sewing the fronts closed and pinning the zipper in, it all fell apart and Nicole was forced to improvise. I'll post picks once I do the last finishing bits.
After the blankie was finished, I made this:
The ganomy hat from EZ's Knitting Almanac. My thought was to give it to little Emily because she's moving to NYC and needs warm things for the winter, but it may be a little too George Washington.
Last night I started the wavy scarf from knitty with a cashmere blend from school products. Hopefully I can bust this out before little E leaves at the end of August...
