Christmas cookies!

hmmm. Are they tasty? Are the molasses overpowering?

Rugelach!

John and I had ambitious cookie plans yesterday afternoon when we decided to bake ginger cookies, christmas cut out cookies ala Kyle , and rugelach. There was icing involved, food coloring and rolling. Very complicated. We made the rugelach from the Cooks Illustrated magazine, and though it took forever and was a lot of work, they tasted great! The only mysterious thing was how to roll the dough without it falling apart and cracking. One of the rugelach achieved nirvana as it matched the dream rugelach that John has in his imagination. Hurrah!

vegas vacation

Harold's parents couldn't join us for our Vegas vacation because they were sick, so Harold and I were left to our own devices in Vegas. Hence, I knitted, Harold played poker, and we ate out a lot. We also saw Avenue Q, which was awesome. The MGM has a really great Italian restaurant called Fiamma- the best meal I had in Vegas. If you're a gnocchi fan, they make really delicious gnocchi.

Robyn's birthday

For Robyn's birthday, we all went out to Universal Cafe for dinner, and then Tracy made a delicious gluten free cake for dessert. Hurrah! Unfortunately, I forgot to take my camera out until the very end, so these are all the pics.

the top of the tree within reach...

Harold and I went to the container store where we found this device. I think it was originally intended to get cans from high shelves, but we thought it would do nicely for picking high lemons off the tree. This way spiders can be avoided as well as high lemons. hurrah! Here is Emily, testing it out.

no brainer knitting

I've been sitting on a big bag of pakucho cotton and have been trying to think of what to do with it. But, with the growth of my stash inducing a proportionate amount of guilt, I decided that I just had to knit something with it, anything. Here it is: raglan sweater with 3/4 length sleeves, boatneck reversible. Based on Barbara Walker's top down raglan with some waist shaping. Since I'm in the finals push of the semester, it had to be easy, so there is no fanciness to the sweater. It took 8 balls, and I still have enough leftover to make another one. Perhaps a v-neck with different edging.
