The Johns won a weekend in a house in Watsonville at the Stanford Law School silent auction. We drove down on Saturday to check out the swank accomodations. We played with all of the household gadgets which included a coffeemaker where all you had to do was put a cup into the wall and press a button, a toilet with heated seats that would give you a spray to clean you up afterwards, a pool table, a six burner Viking stove, a pool, a giant hot tub and a cute dog. The evening culminated in a gigantic meal of stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes, glazed parsnips, mustard seed cauliflower, salad, and stuffed mushrooms. The problem with a huge kitchen is the extra room for potential mess. After we were done cooking, it looked like the aftermath of world war three. Hurrah!

Don't forget the obsession with shells: Shells as shelving, as sinks, and, oh yes, as a chandelier.
